| Varsity 0-2 Wayzata. Section 2AA Championship Game. Away game.
Another beautiful autumn day for a soccer game. Da Orioles started out well with backing from
cheerleaders, fans, and the band. I always enjoy to see the band playing. It gives a little
more pep to the players.
Dominating two-third of the field and had more shots on goal than the Trojans.
Michael had a best chance in the
first-half when he penetrated into the six with a pass and shot but Keeper saved it. Jeremy and
defending crew kept their forwards in check. No doubts in many minds that Da Orioles is winning
the game. Second-half begining like first-half. The best chance came at fifteen-minute mark.
Ryan taking a direct-kick
about 22 yards out in front of Trojans goal. Ryan bent it perfectly over the standing wall to
the lower-left corner where Keeper had no chance for a save but the ball managed to hit the post
and bounced out right in front of the net at the six to find Kyle Mader and Lucas rushing
in for a rebound with no defenders in sight. The ball took an unexpected spin bounce and Kyle
tap it just a bit hard to go over the crossbar. A sure goal but it wasn't to be.
There are good days and there are bad days. I guess this is one of the bad day. The Trojans
goal came not long after with a high cross from right and it found the side netting. Da Orioles
poured on and pushed up more agressively with many shots on goal. There were few times that I
had thought shots from Michael or Martin would go in but just can't find that equalizer.
Trojans second goal came on a quick counter-attack that caught Da Orioles guard down and then
they played defensive mode for rest of the game. We have had a great season in winning our
conference two years in a row and showing our best at Section Tournament. We will continue on
the fight for that elusive State Champions title. We wish all the Seniors best of luck in
their future and thanks for the memories.
Scorers: None.

| Varsity 3-1 Hopkins. Section 2AA Semifinal Game. Home game.
A beautiful bright autumn day for a soccer game.
Da Orioles know what's business at hand for them that day.
They must beat the coming-on Hopkins side to get to Section 2AA Championship.
Da Orioles dominated the Royals the last time they met back 9/14 and won 5-1.
However this time it's a brand new game and either team can come away winner.
Taking nothing for granted, Da Orioles lit up the fire and pounded two goals in the net
within first five minutes. First was a powerful penetration by Michael on right and put a
perfect curving cross to around the six to find Martin running on for a sure tap-in goal.
Second was with Ryan playing right midfield penetrated to the end line just inside the box
and let go a cross low and hard across the six and once again finding Martin running on a for
another easy tap-in goal. Now we're up 2-0 and plenty of time left in the game. Learning
from the past games, coaches Don and Steve knew what they're facing with and urged players
to keep on the pressure. The Royals sure has got a large following clan.
They sang and cheered loud to their players not to give up and keep on the fight. There was
a scramble in our box from the corner kick and somehow our defenders can't clear fast enough
and the Royals kicked in for a goal. Their fans going wild. Here we go I thought. Not another one.
Now the Royals really picking up the steam. To answer the mounting pressure, Da Orioles defense
had to tighten up, stopping all penetration and shots. Jeremy and crew took charge and handled
all Royals attacks. Just like the first-half, Da Orioles exploded off the block and pressed
hard. Michael got a perfect pass from Martin for an easy goal after he beat his man on the run.
Martin did a good job in getting the pass off with three defenders climbing over him.
The Royals poured on the heat but Da Orioles handled cooly to end the game.
Now onto Section 2AA Championship game.
Scorers: Martin Browne (2), Michael Greene.

|
| Varsity 5(OT)-4 Park Center. Section 2AA Quarterfinal Game.
Home game.
It all started well for our Da Orioles. The Fab Four (Greene, Browne, Sorenson, Mader)
just creating problems for the Privates in their end. Michael scored on quick finishing just
inside the box within 3 minutes. Mader added with an easy back heel goal just after
7 minutes mark.
Da Orioles were feeling confident and thinking they've got this game in the bag. No need to
say that there's a fierce and passionate rivalies between these two teams. To know history is
to know where this game is heading.
For the last three years, games between them have decided
on one-goal difference with a exception for one where Privates won 3-1. So what else is new
this time.
From my experience, 2-0 is the worst score ever for the leading team. Why? If you
let your opponent score to make 2-1, 90% they will score again and tie the game. Because
there's momentum your opponent has just got going and it's hard to stop them. That's just
what the Pirates did. They put the pedal to the metal and coming back with all cyclinders
firing to score on a free-kick and quick finishing in the box.
Now it's a tie game 2-2 at the half.
Coming back to the game, Da Orioles settled down and
possessed midfield play for a while and got an upper hand in possession and attacking. Lucas
playing on right midfield got the ball and managed to set Martin up just outside the box. Martin
dribbled past two defenders and with them on his back he let a net-busting shot go that I
could here the Crimsons fans yelling WOW! two miles down the road. That's his best goal so far
in this season. Fans were relieved and I'm sure players felt it too. Not soon after, the Pirates
drove down the right side, crossed in at the sixth, and scored when our defender tried to clear
the loose ball and hit one of the Pirates and ricocheted in the net. Now it's 3-3 and they're
gaining momentum once again.
About 12 minutes to go, Pirates got a break on the right and let go
a low and hard cross into the box. Bryan stretched out to stop the cross but the ball
took a weird bounce to hit his foot and went in for an own goal. The stadium got a little quiet
to digest what just happened with Pirates leading 4-3. Like the die hard fans of Orioles,
they started to cheer for the home team harder and more louder. Sorenson the Captain won't
let this goal to get the team down,
encouraged his fellow players to step up and play harder. The game got a bit more physical,
intense and yellow cards coming out and especially for time wasting tactics by the Pirates.
Seconds ticking away. Da Orioles kept pounding at the door but can't get through a
packed Pirates defense. About 5 minutes to go, Bryan got taken down 35 yards out on right. Now
there's a chance for a direct-kick set play. A cross came to far post, Mader went up to head
the ball right at the Keeper. He reacted and can't control the ball and bounced out to hang
in the air where Jeremy Andreen came in and finished it off with a header to back of net.
What a tying goal! The entire place just erupted with cheers, screams, and relief.
Andreen a soft-spoken guy pranced and celebrated like no tomorrow on this goal. He knew it
was big and he's very happy about it. Like many Orioles fans too.
Wow! I don't think I've enjoyed a game like this before with many feelings going through my body.
After this goal, the two teams settled down and played safe to finished out the regular time.
Now we're playing two 10 minutes overtime with golden goal. Whoever scores first wins.
It seems like Da Orioles last goal has taken the spirits out of the Pirates and moved it to
themselves. They've tightened up the defense and attacked harder. Kyle Philips playing
right midfield got a long ball from the back. He fought with a tough defender and somehow got
free on the inside position to beat his man to the goal. With beaten defender coming down hard
on his back, he kept driving toward the goal and got taken down just inside the box.
There's no question about this foul and it was in the box and that called for a penalty kick.
Sorenson will be taking the kick. The place got quieter. Ref's whistle blown.
A moment in time like eternally.
Ryan stepped up and perfectly put it to the Keeper's right side netting where
he had no chance for a save.
The place erupted with celebration. The entire team went out and celebrated with Ryan.
As the team leaving the field, Da Orioles fans greeted them with Osseo Victory song:
We'll sing a song both loud and long.
To cheer our team to victory.
For Osseo High, we'll do or die.
To pledge eternal loyalty.
Fight! Fight!
Fight on team fight.
We'll win this game.
Roll out the score for Osseo.
Get on the track for orange and black.
To vic-to-ry for Osseo.
O-S-S-E-O.
It's a perfectly fitting for a night like this.
Scorers: Michael Greene, Kyle Mader, Martin Browne, Jeremy Andreen, Ryan Sorenson (PK).

| Varsity 1-0 Anoka. Home game.
The boys know that a win or tie will give them the sole possession of first place
and Champions of Northwest Suburban Conference (NWSC). Blaine did us a favor and smoked
Maple Grove 4-0 last night to drop the Crimsons out of the race. Blaine was hoping for
us to lose so they can share the title but it isn't so. Da Orioles coming out strong and
looking like they gonna put some fast points on the board quick.
There were some missed chances until Michael stripped the ball from defender and set
Martin up all alone top of the box for an easy goal. Michael and Ryan almost had a goal
each but their shots hit the crossbar and post. The Tornadoes had few good chances
themselves but Kevin and Jeremy's defending crew stopped them cold. Congratulations
to NWSC Champions! Two years in a row!
Scorers: Martin Browne.

| NWSC Championship Race. The race for 1st place in NWSC
is as tight as last year. It was a tie between Osseo and Park Center and they shared
the Champions title. This year Osseo, Maple Grove, and Blaine are fighting for it. It's all coming
down to the last game. Osseo (6-0-2) is the front-runner with 14 points, then Maple Grove (6-1-1)
with 13 points, and Blaine (6-2-0) with 12 points. For Osseo to take the title solely, they will
have to beat Anoka (5-3-0) on Saturday 10/8 5pm at Carl A. Tonn field.
Maple Grove at home playing Blaine tonight at 5pm.
The winner of this match will have to wait for Osseo's game.
There are several other variations and I'm not going there for now.
These two games should be on your must-watch-games list.
In the end, I'm putting my money on Osseo boys.
They know how to turn up the heat in the kitchen.

| Varsity 1-0 Blaine. Away game.
Ryan finally joining the party in the box and placing a powerful shot to back of the net
in the first half. Da Orioles are playing a better game today with better midfield play.
I'm very impressed with Jeremy Andreen with his defending skills and as an anchor in the back
for our defense. He's soft-spoken and he lets his game speaks for itself. His consistency
is good and I can't remember when was the last time he had a bad game.
A very dependable Sweeper. In the second-half, the Bengals really pouring on the attacks
but Da Orioles defense wouldn't break.
We had some good chances between the Deadly Combo of Greene and Browne but
the Bengals got a good defense as well. A well fought game between the two teams.
Scorers: Ryan Sorenson.

| JV 3-1 Blaine. Away game.
This is our last game and the boys wanted it to be good for our two seniors Qasim Haji and
Robert Johnsen. The weather is cold and windy by my standards and for most of the boys.
Da Boys coming off a little slow until Sammy got a break and shot right through Bengals
Keeper's hands. Later he got a perfect splitting pass from Phillip to beat two defenders
plus the Keeper and slotted home. Max Slater a workhorse in the midfield let go a looping
shot 25 yards out over the Keeper's outstretched hands. Xico and John are workhorses in the
defense shooing many threats away. Ethan plays a good game with many good saves. For some good
shots I surely thought he couldn't save but he did. I would like to share a few words about
the seniors. Robert and Qasim although they're not athletic nor technically gifted but
they enjoy and love playing the game. They doesn't mind waiting for their turn and
when they do get the chance they play hard either in defense or forward.
Robert had a few chance to score and Qasim attacking up a few times in trying his luck.
I really enjoy having these two on the team and wishing them the best with their future.
Scorers: Samuel Bettie (2), Max Slater.

| JV 2-2 Anoka. Home game.
As usual the boys coming off strong with attacking on right and left wings. Faisal scores on
a nice blooper to left upper 90 from 25 yards out. Tornadoes Keeper is a big kid but couldn't
keep the ball out. Our defenders Xico, Anton, John, and Qasim are doing a good job in keeping
opponent threats away. I'm impressed with Xico and his workhorse ethic. Our center mids Max
and Faisal are playing better in controlling the midfield plays and setting up the scoring
chances. Sammy is good finisher and he scores one from a corner kick. Second-half is a bit
sloppy due to heavy rain. Tornadoes switches the Keeper and he's doing a good job in keeping
our shots out of the net. Tornadoes ties up the game in last minute. They're having a good
season with only one lost. Our Ref is no other than Mr. Hustle himself...Michael Greene.
He's doing a great job in calling the game.
Overall, I'm happy with the team progress and results.
They're learning to play the game the right way and most of all as a team.
Scorers: Faisal Bah, Samuel Bettie.

| Varsity 4-2 Andover. Home game.
Playing against a weaker side, Greene finding gaps in the defense and slotting home
three goals for his hat-trick. Browne has plenty of shots himself and able to convert one.
Da Orioles looking like they're playing a north and south game. Not a whole lot of midfield
possession and build up game. To go any farther, they need to have the balance of attacking,
defending, and midfield plays. Sorenson, I hear they're calling your name. I want to write
about Fab Four soon!
Scorers: Michael Greene (3), Martin Browne.

| JV 2-2 Wayzata. Away game.
First, I would like to ask is what kind of Refs are they using in Wayzata anyway?
No call when our player (Phillip) got taken down from behind in the box?
Apparently this happened in Varsity game as well. Back to the game.
Starting strong in playing the game plan and getting good opportunities to score.
Although the finishing is a little weak, but the players are playing the game the right way.
Soccer is a physical game. There's fine line between playing physical and playing dirty.
Playing physical means you challenge and competing against your opponents agressively and
within limit of the rules. Playing dirty means you're beaten and inferior to your opponents
and you're stepping outside the limit of the rules to get even. There were incidents where
both sides are playing dirty. Playing my game is to play physically and not dirty.
Being down two goals at half-time, the boys coming out firing on all cylinders with higher
octane. Da Orioles dominate the half and our two goals are the most sweetest ones to date.
Phillip's powerful shot to back of net from the left and Sammy's curling free-kick
to beat the wall and Keeper. You've just gotta love these goals!
Scorers: Phillip Boadu, Sammy Bettie.

| Varsity 3-2 Park Center. Away game.
Playing against improving Pirates, Da Orioles defenders hit the snooze buttons a few times to
make it a close game down to the wire. The Triangle of Doom (Browne, Greene, Mader) is at it
again. Creating problems for opponents. Be forewarned that if these guys are marked tight
or having a bad game, others will have to step up and fill their shoes and I'm sure they will.
Scorers: Brandon Gilseth, Kyle Mader, Michael Greene.

Sticking to the same game plan, Da Orioles are attacking furiously and creating many good
chances. The score could be much higher if only we have Sammy to finish off these easy balls
in the box. Sammy got a call up to Varsity team today and couldn't help us. Nathan steps up
his game today and scores one on a good hustle play. Eric as forward giving their defenders
problems as well. Congrats on these players that play beyond their capacity and we need more
of them.

| Varsity 0-0 Maple Grove. Home game.
A scrappy game with multiple yellow cards. Plenty of good opportunities for Da Orioles to put
the game away but just inches away from making them. Maybe that long 4-day rest period have
something to do with it. The outside mids need to penetrate hard in the attacking third in
breaking down the packed box. Two forwards can't win over 6 defenders in the box. Kevin O
making some good saves to keep a clean sheet tonight.

Playing quick passing attack and no non-sense finishing, Da Orioles put three goals in the net
in a hurry in the first-half. It's all business. The Crimsons got a lucky goal when Rob
tried a clear header from corner kick, somehow the ball hit back of his head and bounced into
the goal. Talking about backward header. LOL! Overall, the team has improved with speed of play,
transition, possession, movement, setup and finishing. Well finishing still need plenty of work
as we had many chances to put them away.

| Varsity 3-0 Elk River. Away game.
When you're double and triple marking the deadly combo of Browne and Greene, it's bound for
your defense to have holes, unbalanced, and leaving other attackers room to roam and score.
Kyle Mader steps up and put the ball in the net three times. It's just that simple.
Now there's "Triangle of Doom" for opponents to worry about.
Jeremy Andreen and Bryan Arbogast commanding a tough defense in shutting down the Elks
scoring threats. The defense didn't hit the snooze button in this game. Congrats.

I usually don't blame the referee or second-guessing them but in this game the fouls in the box
against us are so blatantly and no calls. I guess the JV girls game was the same.
What kind of referees are they using in Elk River anyway?
Back to the game. For most of the time, the boys are playing the kind of game I
want them to play. Mistakes are part of the game and to get any better they must
acknowlegde them and do better next time. Learning new position and be good at it, the
players must shed their old bad habits and open up their mind to learn how to play the game
the right way.

It's nice to see many players coming out this year. There are plenty new players and the adjustment

game the right way. Control the ball to find and create chances and capitalized on opportunities.
This game, we control the ball about 70% of the time and have tons of chances but coming short
in the scoring column. I'm happy for the first part and players will be practicing more on
second part.
